Golfer J allegedly taken to Malaysia a day after reported kidnapping

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta Metro Police have disclosed that a woman with the initial J, who was reported as a suspected kidnapping victim in the Mangga Besar area, allegedly left Indonesia for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the day after the reported incident. Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, stated that investigators obtained this information from a passenger manifest received by the police. “The incident occurred on the 13th, and on the 14th the person concerned was in Semarang, departing Indonesia for Kuala Lumpur based on the manifest we received, along with two other individuals known to be relatives of J,” Roby said in Jakarta on Tuesday. However, Roby stressed that investigators are still looking into whether the reported event truly constitutes a criminal act. “We at the Central Jakarta Metro Police are still conducting a series of activities to ascertain whether this incident is a criminal offence or not,” he said. According to Roby, preliminary investigation results do contain statements confirming that someone forcibly took J into a car. “It is true that an incident occurred as reported, namely the victim, J, was forcibly taken into a car by four or five people,” he said. Investigators have also examined several witnesses at the scene. However, efforts to review CCTV footage have been unsuccessful as no cameras were found pointing at or recording the location. Investigators are currently scheduling examinations of two relatives believed to have travelled abroad with J, including J’s father, to clarify the sequence of events. Police are also still investigating the motive behind the reported incident. Roby stated that so far, investigators have found no indication of a ransom demand. “We cannot yet confirm the motive. There are still several motives we are considering. However, to date, there has been no information regarding a ransom demand,” he said. Roby also revealed that the complainant, identified as NA, a friend of J, submitted a written request to withdraw the report on Sunday (19/7). Despite this, the investigation has not been halted. “Our Criminal Investigation Unit and the Women and Children Protection Unit have not stopped the investigation until we can ensure the safety and security of the victim, and confirm that this incident is not a criminal act,” he said. Meanwhile, Head of the Central Jakarta Metro Police Women and Children Protection Unit, Kompol Rita Oktavia Shinta, said her unit continues to coordinate with the Criminal Investigation Unit as the victim is a woman. She added that based on preliminary findings, no indications of violence against the victim have been found. “We are coordinating with the Criminal Investigation Unit to check on the victim’s condition, including her psychological state. What we have observed is that there was no violence against the victim,” Rita said.
