Golf tourney to stay at 180 players
JAKARTA: Organizers of the annual U.S. Memorial Day Golf Tournament said Thursday that there was no immediate plan to increase the number of participants for next year's event.
"There were 180 golfers that took part in the (May) 2002 event. We would like to increase the number of participants but it would be difficult," one of the organizers, Doug Slusher, told The Jakarta Post.
"We didn't just play golf to commemorate Memorial Day but also to give some contributions for charity," he added.
The 2002 event of the tournament was held at the Gading Raya Golf and Country Club in Tangerang, Banten on May 27.
Also present were U.S. Ambassador Ralph Boyce and Mexican Ambassador Pedro Gonzales, Slusher said.
The golfers were playing in five-player teams with the Texas Scramble system.
The top teams carded a 9 under par forcing a tiebreak with Longgam Panggabean, Kenny McKinney, Peter Grant, Steve Carlon and Clent Rawlinson taking home the trophy. -- JP
