Golf earnings taxable now

JAKARTA (JP): Income earned by golf course operators from fees
of membership, admission and transfer as well as other forms of
earnings procured from golf practices are now taxable.

The ruling on the taxation is stipulated in the Tax Director
General's Circular Letter No. SE-06/PJ.313/1994 dated Oct. 10,
which was made available to The Jakarta Post yesterday.

The Directorate General of Taxes said that the ruling on the
golf tax is in compliance with article 4 of the law on income
tax.

The statement said companies or foundations operating golf
courses are also taxpayers and that they are required to have tax
registration numbers (NPWP).

It, however, said that the income in the form of capital paid
up by members as their equity participation is not categorized as
taxable earnings.(hen)
