Golf course in Biak Numfor

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The management of the four-star Hotel Biak Beach, PT Bali Tourist Development Council (BTDC), plans to build an international standard 18-hole golf course on Biak island located in Biak Numfor regency, Antara reported.

"The development of the golf course is part of the third stage development plan of the Marauw Tourist Resort," BTDC president, Tjok Ngurah Swastika said.

The first and second stages began in 1991 and the developer has invested some US$ 47 million so far.

Marauw Tourist Resort is 45 percent owned by the provincial administration of Irian Jaya with the remainder owned by BTDC (35 percent), the state-owned Bank Ekspor-Impor and Bank Dagang Negara (15 percent), PT Jasaname (two percent) and the people of Biak (three percent).

The golf course will cover an area of 30 hectares and will be constructed at a cost of $10 million. (emb)
