Golden Glove c'ship in Semarang

JAKARTA (JP): More than 80 boxers from 24 provinces are
expected to take part in the Golden Glove championship in
Semarang, Central Java, next January.

Secretary-General of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association
Didit Sudijoto said yesterday that the tournament would serve as
a warm-up for the President Cup, Indonesia's only international
boxing event sanctioned by the world amateur boxing body,
scheduled for July.

"If Semarang holds the Golden Glove successfully, why not give
the city the opportunity to host the President Cup," Didit said.
The Cup was dropped from the association's agenda this year due
to Indonesia's busy preparations for the Olympics Games in
Atlanta. (amd)
