Gold Prices Predicted to Fluctuate Next Week

Gold prices are predicted to continue fluctuating next week. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, Antam’s gold price was recorded at Rp 2,769,000 per gram, while global gold was traded above US$ 4,574 per troy ounce.

Over the past week, global gold prices have fluctuated, reaching a high of US$ 4,767 per troy ounce on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. On the same day, Antam’s gold price reached its highest level of the week at Rp 2,859,000 per gram. However, the trend has been declining since then.

Currency and commodity analyst and Director of PT Traze Andalan Futures, Ibrahim Assuaibi, stated that if global gold prices fall next week, the lowest price could be between US$ 4,307 - 4,444 per troy ounce. “Consequently, Antam’s gold price is likely to decrease by Rp 20,000 to Rp 2,749,000 per gram,” he said in an official statement on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

However, if the price of this commodity rises, global gold could reach US$ 4,639-4,796 per troy ounce. Antam’s gold could then reach Rp 2,880,000 per gram.

Ibrahim explained that reaching a gold price level of Rp 2,900,000 is likely to be difficult due to high global uncertainty, especially the US-Iran conflict and the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The possibility of rising gold prices exists if the Strait of Hormuz reopens and the US does not become involved in the Middle East war. Conversely, if the US continues to intervene and blockades the Strait of Hormuz, gold prices will fall again.

On the other hand, inflation in the US is increasing due to the war, which could prompt global central banks to maintain or even raise interest rates. “This could cause gold prices to decline,” said Ibrahim.

The rupiah exchange rate is also likely to continue weakening this week and could potentially break through Rp 17,800 per US dollar. This condition could encourage people to collect gold as an investment.
