Gold Prices Fall Today: Is Now the Best Time to Buy?
The price of Antam gold weakened again in today’s trading. According to the Logam Mulia website monitored in Jakarta at 09:14 WIB on Tuesday, the price of Antam gold fell by Rp9,000 to Rp2,613,000 per gram, from the previous Rp2,622,000 per gram.
Not only the selling price, but the buyback price also declined to Rp2,361,000 per gram. It should be noted that the price of Antam gold bars can change at any time in line with market movements.
In addition, buyback transactions worth more than Rp10,000,000 are subject to Income Tax (PPh Article 22) of 1.5 per cent, whilst gold purchases are subject to PPh of 0.25 per cent of the applicable base price.
Price declines like this often lead many people to ask whether now is the right time to buy gold. Some prospective investors choose to wait for prices to fall further, whilst others worry about losing momentum if they delay their purchase for too long.
In fact, investment analysts assess that there is no definite formula for determining the best time to buy gold. Rather than relying solely on daily price movements, the decision to buy gold should take into account investment objectives, economic conditions, and the strategy to be used over the long term.
The following are several conditions considered to be the best times to buy gold, as reported by MoneyWeek on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.
- When Prices Are Undergoing a Correction
When gold prices fall after previously rising quite significantly, this condition is often seen as an opportunity to start buying. A price correction allows investors to obtain gold at a lower price compared to some time before. However, the decision must still consider long-term prospects, rather than simply chasing momentary price declines.
- When Interest Rates Are Expected to Fall
Interest rate movements influence gold prices. When interest rates begin to fall, interest-bearing investment instruments become less attractive, prompting some investors to switch to gold. This condition often supports rising demand for the precious metal.
- When Economic Uncertainty Is Rising
Gold is known as a safe haven asset that is typically sought after when economic conditions are uncertain. High inflation, geopolitical conflicts, economic slowdowns, and the threat of recession can increase investor interest in gold as an asset considered capable of preserving wealth.
