The decline in domestic gold prices is also in line with the movement of global gold prices, which remain under pressure.
Citing Trading Economics, world gold prices fell 2.22 percent to USD 4,547 per ounce on Friday (May 15, 2026). On a weekly basis, gold prices weakened by about 4 percent.
The decline in gold prices was triggered by increasing inflationary pressures in the United States. This strengthens expectations that the US central bank, the Federal Reserve (The Fed), will maintain high interest rates for longer, and may even raise them again.
These inflationary pressures are partly influenced by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and disruptions to global energy routes due to the near closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
This situation has led the market to start reducing expectations of a Fed rate cut this year.
Some market participants are even starting to factor in the possibility of an increase in US interest rates in December 2026, which is also putting downward pressure on investor interest in safe-haven assets such as gold.
