Gold price hits Rp3 million per gram; financial planner says don't rush to sell

Jakarta — Gold prices, which have breached around Rp3 million per gram, are tempting many investors to realise gains quickly. However, financial planners warn that selling decisions should not be based solely on price euphoria.

Financial planner Melvin Mumpuni says gold, at base, is a long‑term investment instrument that acts as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Therefore, selling decisions should revert to the financial plan prepared from the outset.

According to him, although current gold prices have delivered substantial profits for investors, the potential for further price rises remains open. This condition makes gold still relevant to hold while its investment goals have not been achieved.

“Gold has gone up now; profits are substantial, could it go higher? Yes, it could, still possible. So, again, are there financial goals? If not, why sell,” Melvin said at the “PRIMA Talkshow” in Jakarta, on Thursday (5 March 2026).

Therefore, gold should ideally be sold when those goals have arrived. In such a situation, selling gold becomes part of the financial strategy that has already been planned.

“If the goal has indeed been reached, for example for education, and it is indeed time to sell, well, it is indeed time to sell,” he said.

Meanwhile, gold prices at Pegadaian on Thursday (5 March 2026) were down for two products marketed, namely Galeri 24 and UBS.

The price of UBS gold 1 gram was Rp 3,091,000, while Galeri 24 1 gram was Rp 3,075,000.

Pegadaian offers various bullion options with weights. For Galeri 24, available sizes range from 0.5 gram to 1,000 gram. UBS gold ranges from 0.5 gram to 500 gram.

Antam gold price is no longer listed on the Sahabat Pegadaian page since Friday (24 October 2025).
