Gold-Plated 'Pharaoh's Chair' Valued at Rp 43 Million Up for Auction by Attorney General's Office

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) is auctioning a replica of an Egyptian Pharaoh’s chair during the Asset Recovery Agency (BPA) Fair 2026. The chair is an asset seized from Jimmy Sutopo, a convict in the ASABRI corruption case.

At the event on Monday (18/5/2026), the Pharaoh’s chair replica appeared in a golden yellow hue, featuring distinctive Egyptian carvings reminiscent of reliefs found in Pharaohs’ tombs, including lion-head carvings on the armrests. According to the organisers, only one unit of this chair will be auctioned to the public during this BPA Fair.

According to the BPA Fair auction information, the Pharaoh’s chair replica is being auctioned with a starting price of Rp 43,917,000, with a required security deposit of Rp 10 million. The auction period began on 12 May 2026 and is scheduled to conclude on 21 May 2026, while the deadline for security deposit payments is today, Monday, 18 May 2026.

The sale value was determined directly by the State Property and Auction Service Office (KPNL), rather than unilaterally by the BPA. In addition to this chair replica, the Attorney General’s Office has also seized other assets belonging to Jimmy Sutopo, the majority of which are artworks, including gold paintings, musical instruments, and sculptures.

“We have designed the presentation of the auction so that these items are not viewed merely as ordinary objects, but as works of art,” said the Head of the Attorney General’s BPA, Kuntadi, to reporters. Kuntadi explained that the items being auctioned in the BPA Fair 2026, including this chair replica, have undergone a professional valuation process. He guaranteed that members of the public who win the auction will receive legal certainty regarding the assets.

“Buying our goods does not mean buying problematic items, but rather items whose legal issues have been resolved. There is certainty for the public that buying our goods is equivalent to helping the state,” Kuntadi added. The BPA Fair 2026 auction process runs from 18 to 21 May 2026.
