Gold medals expected in diving

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian divers are expected to once again win
gold medals at the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand,
Mochtar Yasin of the Indonesian Diving Association said
yesterday.

In the Singapore SEA Games two years ago, Indonesian divers
won gold in the men's 3 meter and women's 3 meter events. The
upcoming SEA Games offers a total of six medals in the men's and
women's 1m, men's and women's 3m and men's and women's 10m
platform.

The association has been intensively grooming five female and
five male divers since October last year. Yasin said that their
chances of representing Indonesia at the Dec. 9-17 SEA Games will
depend on their performance at the National Championships, slated
for June 21 through 24.

The national diving team has since last February been training
under the tutelage of a Chinese Olympic coach, Zhong Shao Zhen,
with whom some Chinese world divers such as Go Meng, Tan Liang De
and Fu Ming Xia have worked out. (arf)
