The development of the Gold Bank in Indonesia has begun to involve the sharia aspect from the start. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) considers that sharia principles need to be observed from the formation of the bullion ecosystem, including in the development of gold-based transactions and products.

Secretary General of the Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA) and Director of Sales and Distribution at BSI, Anton Sukarna, said that sharia involvement has been underway since the early formation of IBMA. This is in line with BSI’s position as one of the banks conducting bullion business activities in a sharia-compliant manner.

“The early involvement regarding sharia concerns from IBMA has been ongoing. So, God willing, later in transactions, perhaps products and everything else, we have started to have sharia concerns from the beginning,” Anton said at the Launching of the Indonesia Bullion Market Association at BSI Tower Jakarta on Thursday (20/8/2026).

According to Anton, the development of the bullion ecosystem does not only aim to increase the amount of gold under management. Industry players also need to integrate gold that is still in natural resources with gold already owned by the public so that it can enter the market.

“How can we maximise all gold resources in Indonesia, both those still in the ground, meaning still being explored to enter the market, and those already in the hands of the public,” he said.

Therefore, Anton said, IBMA’s initial focus is to integrate as many gold industry players as possible. Once the ecosystem is formed, public literacy and inclusion regarding gold also need to be strengthened so that gold can enter the financial industry more deeply.
