Gojek reveals factors behind surging demand levels in Jakarta area
Jakarta — Ride-hailing application service provider Gojek has disclosed several factors causing a surge in demand levels, particularly in Jakarta, which has made it difficult for customers to secure driver partners during certain hours in the final period of Ramadan and approaching Eid al-Fitr.
Gojek’s Head of Driver Operations Bambang Adi Wirawan stated in Jakarta on Friday that peak hours commence earlier than on other days outside Ramadan, starting from 15:30 and reaching their apex between 16:00–18:00 WIB.
“On the other hand, during the final period of Ramadan, we understand that some of our driver partners, particularly those operating in major cities, have returned to their hometowns to celebrate with family,” said Bambang.
Internal Gojek data from 2025 indicates that driver partners gradually resume their activities during the first to second week following Eid al-Fitr, as public activities normalise after the holiday period.
Beyond these factors, Bambang noted that external elements such as rainy weather causing flooding at several locations and resulting traffic congestion also affect driver availability.
“Consequently, customer orders during this period often require additional time before being accepted by a partner,” he explained.
To mitigate this situation, Gojek has advised users to allocate longer timeframes for the booking process and journey planning.
Meanwhile, on the driver partner side, Gojek will implement a special tariff scheme applicable during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period to enhance earning opportunities for partners.
“There are also income incentives or bonuses for driver partners who have completed a certain number of orders. We consider this step important to appreciate driver partners who choose to continue serving the public during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period,” said Bambang.
“Gojek remains committed to ensuring convenience and comfort for users when using our service, whilst simultaneously offering an ecosystem that provides driver partners opportunities to earn sustainable income,” he added.
