Gojek Reveals Factors Behind Driver Shortage During Ramadhan
Gojek has identified several factors that make it difficult for customers to secure driver partners during the final period of Ramadhan leading up to Eid al-Fitr.
Bambang Adi Wirawan, Head of Driver Operations at Gojek, noted that the surge in demand occurs earlier than usual. Peak hours begin around 15:30 WIB and reach their maximum between 16:00 and 18:00 WIB.
“On the other hand, during the final Ramadhan period, we understand that some of our driver partners, particularly those operating in major cities, have returned to their hometowns for Eid and prefer to spend time with their families,” said Bambang on Friday, 13 March 2026.
Internal Gojek data from 2025 shows that driver partners typically resume activities gradually during the first to second week following Eid al-Fitr, as public activities return to normal after the holiday period.
External factors also influence driver availability. Heavy rain causing flooding at various locations has triggered traffic congestion, requiring drivers to spend more time accepting and completing orders.
“As a result, customer orders during this period often require additional time before being accepted by partners,” said Bambang.
The company has also prepared a special tariff scheme during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period to increase income opportunities for driver partners. In addition, the company provides additional incentives for drivers who complete a certain number of orders.
“There are also incentives or bonus income for driver partners who have completed a certain number of orders. This step is important for us to implement to appreciate driver partners who choose to continue serving the public during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period,” said Bambang.
He added that the company is striving to maintain a balance between user comfort and income opportunities for driver partners.
