President Prabowo Subianto has officially signed Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Workers. The regulation, among other things, stipulates that applicator fees for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers must not exceed 8 percent. This is because, according to Prabowo, ojol drivers previously only received 80 percent of the revenue share from applicators. “The revenue share, previously 80 percent for drivers, is now at least 92 percent for drivers,” said Prabowo at the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 event at the National Monument (Monas) on Friday, 1 May 2026. Following the maximum applicator fee stipulated, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) has spoken out. GOTO’s President Director, Hans Patuwo, stated that the company is prepared to comply with government regulations, including Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026, which was enacted today. “GoTo always complies with government regulations, including the directives conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto regarding the protection of online transportation workers as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026,” said Hans in his official statement, quoted on Friday, 1 May 2026. Hans mentioned that the company will currently review and understand the details of the necessary adjustments in accordance with the regulation. He also stated that the company will continue to coordinate with stakeholders to provide benefits for drivers and customers. “At this time, we will conduct a review to understand the details, implications, and necessary adjustments in accordance with the regulation. We will continue to coordinate with the government and all relevant stakeholders so that GoTo/Gojek can continue to provide sustainable benefits to all of society, especially Gojek driver partners and customers,” he said. Earlier, at today’s May Day event at Monas, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto requested that fees deducted by ojol companies or applicators be below 10 percent. The Head of State expressed disagreement with deduction fees reaching 20 percent. Prabowo considered such deductions unfair because online motorcycle taxi drivers already work hard in the field. “Ojol work hard, risking their lives every day. Ojol applicators from the company demand 20 percent to be deposited. How can ojol agree to 20 percent? What about 15 percent? How much?? 10 percent, you demand 10 percent? I say here I do not agree with 10 percent. It must be below 10 percent. It’s too easy, you sweat and he gets the money, sorry. If you don’t want to follow, we don’t need to strive in Indonesia,” Prabowo emphasised firmly.
