Gojek-Grab Commission Cut to 8%, Drivers Complain Earnings Have Fallen

Ride-hailing applications Grab and GoTo (Gojek) began implementing a new commission rate for drivers of 8 per cent starting Wednesday (1/7/2026). However, the reduction from the previous 20 per cent cut is considered to have brought little tangible benefit for a number of online motorcycle taxi drivers. Several drivers met on Wednesday morning confirmed the new commission had been applied. The platform operators are implementing a new flat-rate commission scheme for both budget and regular services. Surprisingly, GrabBike and GoRide drivers unanimously complained that their earnings have decreased. In particular, the minimum fare, which was previously Rp10,400, has reportedly become Rp10,212 for Gojek and Rp10,200 for Grab drivers. They also said there are additional components being charged, such as application fees and insurance. “It is now in effect, but it seems it is not what we expected. It turns out our income has decreased,” said one driver. Regarding the budget service, drivers said the 8 per cent commission has been applied. Based on information they received, drivers are also no longer charged subscription fees as before. A number of drivers admitted they did not feel any increase in earnings throughout the morning’s work. From around seven trips completed, a driver earned Rp70,000 to Rp75,000, almost the same as before. In fact, some drivers claimed their earnings were better previously compared to after the platform commission dropped to 8 per cent. “We thought that for a long trip of Rp20,000 we would get a decent amount, and for a short distance where the customer pays Rp15,000 we thought we would get Rp13,000 to Rp14,000, but it turns out we still get Rp10,000,” said another driver. They want an increase in income, considering that so far they have not been able to take much money home. Several drivers admitted they could only take home Rp50,000 to Rp80,000 after a full day of picking up passengers. Earnings as an online motorcycle taxi driver must still be deducted for other expenses such as meals, fuel, and vehicle servicing. Meanwhile, a driver also wants the platform operators to provide clearer and more transparent information regarding their earnings. “Please clarify further how much we get from the 8 per cent. We ask the platform operators to just be more open,” explained another driver.
