Gojek-Grab Commission Cut to 8%, Drivers Complain Earnings Have Fallen

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The ride-hailing applications Grab and GoTo (Gojek) began implementing a new commission rate of 8% for drivers starting Wednesday (1/7/2026). However, the reduction from the previous 20% rate is reportedly not providing significant benefits to many motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers.

Several drivers met by CNBC Indonesia on Wednesday morning confirmed that the new commission scheme is already in effect. The platform operators have applied this new uniform commission rate to both ‘economy’ and regular services.

Surprisingly, GrabBike and GoRide drivers are collectively complaining that their earnings have declined. Specifically, the minimum fare, which was previously Rp 10,400, has reportedly dropped to Rp 10,212 for Gojek, while Grab drivers are receiving Rp 10,200.

Drivers also noted the presence of additional components being deducted, such as application fees and insurance.

“It is already in effect, but it doesn’t seem to meet our expectations. It turns out our income has decreased,” said one driver.

Regarding the economy service, drivers stated that the 8% commission has been applied. Based on the information they received, drivers are also no longer charged subscription fees as they were previously.

Several drivers claimed they have not felt any increase in income during their shifts this morning. From approximately seven trips, one driver earned between Rp 70,000 and Rp 75,000, which is nearly the same as before.

In fact, some drivers admitted that their earnings were better prior to the reduction of the platform commission to 8%.

“We thought that for a long-distance trip of Rp 20,000, the take-home pay would be decent. For a short distance where the customer pays Rp 15,000, we thought we would get Rp 13,000–14,000, but it turns out it is still only Rp 10,000,” said another driver.

They are seeking an increase in income, given that their current take-home pay remains low. Many drivers report only being able to take home between Rp 50,000 and Rp 80,000 after a full day of driving. This income must still cover other expenses such as food, fuel, and vehicle maintenance.

Meanwhile, another driver expressed a desire for platform operators to provide more clarity and transparency regarding the earnings received.

“They need to clarify exactly how much we get from that 8%. We are asking the platform operators to be more open,” explained another driver.
