Indonesia’s two leading ride-hailing applications, Grab and Gojek, have simultaneously ceased their subscription programmes for ‘Budget’ service access for their motorcycle taxi driver partners. The announcement regarding the closure of these paid schemes, which were previously charged to driver partners, was made separately by each company on Tuesday (19/05/2026).

This step serves as a response from the platform operators to comply with government directives aimed at enhancing the welfare of drivers on the ground. PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO) has officially terminated the GoRide Hemat subscription scheme. Previously, this was a paid system where driver partners had to subscribe to access a different revenue structure or tariff compared to regular orders.

“After operating for three months, we conducted an in-depth study and found that this subscription scheme requires a better balance for the welfare of driver partners,” stated Hans during a press conference at the GoTo office in Jakarta on Tuesday. Following the removal of this subscription scheme, the revenue-sharing percentage for GoRide Hemat services will be standardised with GoRide Regular. Moving forward, Gojek will implement an application commission of 8 per cent per trip, a significant decrease from the previous figure which had reached 20 per cent. According to Hans, this reduction in commission is a direct follow-up to directives from the President and the government.

A similar move has been taken by its competitor, Grab Indonesia. The company has officially closed the ‘Budget Access Subscription Programme’ for GrabBike partners. Grab Indonesia CEO, Neneng Goenadi, stated that the closure of the programme is part of the company’s adjustments to maintain the sustainability of the service ecosystem between drivers and consumers. “We believe that better adjustments are necessary. The closure of this subscription programme is also conducted to create a sustainable ecosystem for all parties,” Neneng said in an official written statement. To maintain its commitment to partner welfare amidst the dynamics of digital transport, Grab continues to rely on various support programmes.
