SINGAPORE (Reuter): Philippine Foreign Secretary Domingo
Siazon will meet Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong during a visit to
Singapore between July 16 to 19, the city state's Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MFA) said yesterday.
Commenting on the visit, a diplomatic source told Reuters: "He
will give the Prime Minister an invitation to visit the
Philippines. The time has not been decided yet."
The Singapore prime minister was supposed to visit the
Philippines last year, but the trip was canceled following the
diplomatic fallout after the March 17, 1995 hanging of maid Flor
Contemplacion for double murder.
Filipinos denounced the hanging and both countries recalled
their envoys from each other's capitals. The differences were
patched up last December and ambassadors reappointed early this
year.
Siazon will also hold talks with Foreign Minister S. Jayakumar
and Trade and Industry Minister Goh Chee Wee, the MFA said in a
statement.
