GMNI Calls for National Unity, Urges State to Side with the People
The Central Executive Board of the Indonesian National Student Movement (DPP GMNI) has stressed the importance of maintaining national unity amidst the complex economic and political situation facing the nation. DPP GMNI views the current dynamics as being influenced by various internal and external factors that have a significant impact on national conditions and public welfare.
DPP GMNI Chairman Risyad Fahlefi stated that the organisation is observing a number of strategic issues, such as the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG), the Merah Putih Village Cooperative Programme (KDMP), various corruption cases that have surfaced recently, and sentiments arising from the government’s domestic policies.
According to DPP GMNI, these strategic programmes, which are projected to create a multiplier effect for the national economy, still require evaluation and improvement in aspects of management, supervision, and the targeting of beneficiaries. “DPP GMNI assesses that various governance issues that occur have the potential to burden the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) and impact the national economic condition,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Additionally, DPP GMNI highlighted various negative responses to several government policies, including issues related to mining royalties and the establishment of a single-window export body. According to the organisation, which is founded on the teachings of Bung Karno, this situation cannot be separated from the dynamics of economic and political power struggles between the government and parties that do not comply with regulations.
Meanwhile, from an external perspective, DPP GMNI sees that global geopolitical conflicts, particularly the war in the Middle East, the strengthening of the US dollar, and global economic uncertainty are also putting pressure on the national economy. “The rise in world crude oil prices has a direct impact on the energy sector, including fuel prices and public operational costs,” he said.
DPP GMNI is urging the government to maintain subsidies for Pertalite and Bio Solar fuels and to guarantee their availability throughout Indonesia to protect ordinary citizens and productive business sectors. DPP GMNI also reminded the government to keep open the possibility of adjusting non-subsidised fuel prices if world oil prices decline.
