GMNI Calls for National Unity to Ensure Effective Government Programmes
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Board of the Indonesian National Student Movement (DPP GMNI) has stressed the importance of safeguarding national unity amidst the complex economic and political situation facing the nation, while putting forward a series of strategic recommendations.
DPP GMNI Chairman Risyad Fahlefi stated that the current economic and political challenges must be addressed with policies that favour the people, strengthen the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, and maintain national unity as the primary foundation for national development.
Based on its assessment, DPP GMNI offered several strategic recommendations to the government and policymakers. The organisation urged a refocusing of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, prioritising underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T). It also called for the National Nutrition Agency to conduct more thorough and measurable mapping of beneficiaries.
DPP GMNI further pushed for a more detailed and accountable rebudgeting of the Village Red-and-White Cooperative (KDMP) programme, accompanied by strict oversight down to the implementation level to prevent irregularities and corrupt practices.
“Every rupiah of the state budget must genuinely benefit the people. Therefore, evaluation, accurate mapping, and strong supervision are absolute prerequisites for national strategic programmes to run effectively,” Risyad said.
To strengthen state revenue, DPP GMNI encouraged the creation of regulations that support broader absorption of MSME products. It also called for the optimisation of the blue economy through the strengthening of the national maritime sector.
DPP GMNI proposed institutional reform of maritime law enforcement through an integrated command system under the Indonesian Coast Guard, as well as the optimisation of smart maritime surveillance technology based on artificial intelligence and vessel monitoring systems to curb foreign exchange losses from illegal fishing.
Furthermore, DPP GMNI asserted that the one-door export policy, downstream processing, and national industrialisation must continue to be strengthened as strategic instruments to increase economic value-added and boost state revenue.
“Indonesia possesses enormous resources. What is needed is political courage to strengthen downstream processing, industrialisation, the maritime economy, and MSME empowerment so that the benefits of the national economy are truly felt by the people,” Risyad stated.
DPP GMNI also stressed that the law must serve as the supreme commander in the life of the nation and state. Law enforcement must deliver a sense of justice, preserve national unity, and support the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution.
According to DPP GMNI, the law must be enforced firmly against all forms of violations, ranging from human rights abuses to the various agrarian conflicts still occurring in several regions. The organisation cautioned against legal practices that are lenient towards the powerful but harsh towards the weak, insisting that all parties, including state officials, oligarchs, and law enforcement officers who abuse their authority, must be processed fairly and decisively.
DPP GMNI also urged the government to maintain subsidies for Pertalite and Biosolar fuels and to guarantee their availability across all regions of Indonesia to protect low-income communities and productive business sectors. It further reminded the government to remain open to adjusting non-subsidised fuel prices should global oil prices decline.
“Let us together preserve national unity, safeguard the noble ideals of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, and ensure that the state is truly present and takes the side of the people. Criticism and aspirations must become energy to improve the nation, not to divide our unity,” Risyad concluded.
