GMNI Appreciates Government's Decision to Maintain Fuel Prices for Stability

Jakarta - The General Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian National Student Movement (DPP GMNI), M. Risyad Fahlefi, has expressed appreciation for the government’s policy of maintaining fuel (BBM) prices amid the pressures of global economic dynamics.

According to Risyad, this decision demonstrates the government’s concern for the public, particularly low-income communities who are severely affected by fluctuations in energy prices. The stability of fuel prices is an important factor in preserving public purchasing power and curbing inflation rates.

“We assess the government’s step in keeping fuel prices stable as a concrete commitment to protecting the people from heavier economic burdens, especially amid uncertain global conditions,” Risyad stated in a press release in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Furthermore, DPP GMNI views this policy as having positive impacts on strategic sectors, such as transportation, logistics distribution, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that heavily rely on energy price stability.

“We hope this policy becomes part of a long-term strategy to realise national energy sovereignty and public welfare. This is an important momentum to implement Bung Karno’s Trisakti, particularly in achieving economic self-reliance,” he added.

According to Risyad, public welfare must be the top priority so that our nation is not easily dictated by global market fluctuations.

DPP GMNI stated that it will continue to monitor public policies and act as a constructive critical partner to ensure that every government step remains in the interests of the wider public.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto emphasised that the government is striving to keep subsidised fuel affordable for the public, especially for vulnerable groups.

“My economic ministers have reported that subsidised fuel will be maintained for the poor and low-income people. We will maintain it for 80 percent of our people,” Prabowo said during the Briefing at the Working Meeting of the Government Members of the Red and White Cabinet, in Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4).
