Glodok vendors get free kiosks

JAKARTA: City market operator PD Pasar Jaya if offering vendors currently occupying the area of Pancoran in Glodok, West Jakarta, kiosks in the nearby Glodok and Perniagaan Markets for free for the first six months.

The policy was part of the municipality's program to relocate the vendors, said Tamansari district head Arifin.

He said that the free kiosks would only be available for vendors who were registered by the West Jakarta administration.

Of the 1,500 vendors in the area, only 858 of them are registered by the administration.

"We will only require them to pay for electricity," he told reporters.

He said that the relocation of the street vendors was in line with the administration's plan to clean up the area ahead of the country's independence day celebrations next month. --JP
