JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has confirmed that the domestic maximum retail price (HET) for urea will remain stable despite the increase in global prices. Head of Corporate Secretary at Pupuk Indonesia, Yehezkiel Adiperwira, stated that the price rise in the international market is due to supply disruptions. Data from Trading Economics shows that global urea prices have reached US$684 per tonne, the highest level since October 2024. “It’s similar to world oil prices; with limited supply and high demand, prices are inevitably pulled upwards,” said Yehezkiel at the Ministry of Agriculture in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026). This policy is supported by subsidies of around 20% for all types of fertiliser. “So for domestic farmers, subsidised farmers in the country, hopefully or we assure that (urea) will not be affected by this, by this war,” said Yehezkiel. Pupuk Indonesia is currently focusing on meeting domestic needs. The subsidised fertiliser quota for 2026 stands at 9.84 million tonnes. The company is also encouraging farmers to promptly redeem their subsidised fertiliser to ensure optimal absorption. “So we prioritise fulfilling domestic needs first. If there is excess, then we can export,” said Yehezkiel. The production capacity of factories under Pupuk Indonesia is deemed sufficient to meet national requirements. “For exports, that will be a lower priority after domestic needs,” said Yehezkiel.
