Mitsubishi Chemical Group continues to restructure its operations to enhance business performance. Amidst the geopolitical instability in the Middle East, the company is focused on improving its financial performance.

Michio Kaharu, Regional Head of Mitsubishi Chemical Group Asia-Pacific, stated his intention to expand the company’s business within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. However, he noted that the company’s investment decisions are not based on pre-determined fixed figures.

According to Kaharu, Mitsubishi Chemical continuously evaluates business development opportunities across various regions. “To be honest, we do not have a specific figure for investment in Indonesia. Mitsubishi Chemical as a whole is always researching possibilities on how to develop our business based on our business portfolio,” Michio said in Jakarta on Sunday (30/08/2026).

Michio mentioned that during the previous year, Mitsubishi Chemical focused heavily on business restructuring, particularly within the fuel and commodities sectors. Moving into the next period, the company is becoming more aggressive in building and developing its business.

“Since last year, Mitsubishi Chemical has become more aggressive in building businesses. We are currently researching various possibilities,” he explained.

According to Michio, the APAC region still holds strong growth prospects. He assessed that growth in Europe is relatively slow, while Japan faces demographic challenges due to a declining population. Meanwhile, China continues to face several economic hurdles.

“We, and everyone in the APAC region, believe that the APAC region will continue to grow,” said Michio.

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that current geopolitical conditions necessitate greater caution in making business and investment decisions. Regional conflicts and uncertainties are key factors being considered during the company’s evaluation process.

“The current situation is somewhat uncertain due to regional conflicts. Given the present situation, we must be careful in making decisions. However, I believe our business in the APAC region will continue to flourish,” he concluded.
