Global Tablet Market Slumps, Yet Lenovo is Confident in Indonesia's Growth
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Lenovo, a vendor of computers and tablets, is optimistic that the tablet market in Indonesia can still grow despite global projections indicating a downturn.
Lenovo Indonesia’s Consumer Product Manager, William Hartoyo, stated that this optimism is driven by trends in tablet usage in the country, which are shifting from mere entertainment to productivity.
“The tablet market should still be able to grow in Indonesia. One reason is the productivity trend, where the tablet’s function will become broader,” said William during the launch event of the Lenovo Yoga Tab in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).
He added that this change in user behaviour is a key factor making Lenovo view Indonesia as a promising market.
“We believe the market (tablet market) should perform better in Indonesia,” William added.
William explained that rising component prices could also influence consumer preferences, particularly in choosing which tablet segment to opt for.
According to him, tablet users’ needs are now increasingly diverse, ranging from students to workers or professional creators.
To meet these needs, Lenovo offers a variety of tablet lines, from the Yoga series for productivity, Legion for gaming, to other more affordable tablet options.
“Lenovo tablets aren’t just Legion Gaming or Yoga; there’s also Motopad,” said William.
He added that even with price increases, purchasing decisions still depend on each user’s needs, including the model and price range of the device desired.
“For creators, they need more complete devices like in the Yoga Tab line. Whereas for schoolchildren, perhaps in the price segment under Rp 5 million,” he explained.
Previously, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) projected a 7.6 percent drop in tablet shipments throughout this year.
