Global Sumud Flotilla Fleet Resumes Voyage to Gaza
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MARMARIS – The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) fleet, which had been holding position in Greek waters, has resumed its movement in the mission to break the Gaza blockade in Palestine on Friday (8/5/2026). The 32 humanitarian ships, which had been delayed due to an attack by the Zionist Israeli navy on Wednesday (29/4/2026), are continuing their voyage to pick up participants waiting in Marmaris, Turkey.
In an official statement delivered by the GSF to all participants, there are 12 humanitarian ships also ready to sail to break through to Gaza in Marmaris. The combined ships from Greece and those that have been waiting in Marmaris for a week make the humanitarian fleet continuing the mission to Gaza number around 40.
“Despite the illegal kidnapping of our comrades, the psychological warfare of the occupation, and threats of surveillance and military aggression, the Global Sumud Flotilla remains intact and its goal remains the same: to stand with the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and to advocate for fundamental rights,” reads the official GSF statement received by Republika in Marmaris, Turkey, on Friday (8/5/2026).
Two leaders of the Global Sumud Flotilla voyage, Thiago Avila and Seif Abukeshek, remain in Zionist Israeli captivity to this day. The two were kidnapped following the Zionist naval forces’ attack on 22 humanitarian ships on Wednesday (29/5/2026). The other 176 voyage participants suffered torture but were handed over to Greek authorities for deportation to their home countries, with some choosing to be returned to Turkey to continue the mission.
Regarding the fate of Thiago and Seif, they are currently in special isolation cells in Shikma Prison. They have been under maximum interrogation for more than a week on terrorism charges. Both have endured physical and psychological torture. A lower court in Ashkelon has extended their detention until Sunday (10/5/2026). In the past few days, they have been on hunger and thirst strikes as a form of protest against the illegal detention carried out by the Zionists.
