Global Oil Supply Disrupted, Government Reviews Energy Efficiency Measures
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has stated that the government is currently reviewing domestic energy requirements through efficiency measures. “Efficiency represents financial recovery for the state and optimisation of all our energy resources,” Lahadalia said during a meeting at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
One area under review involves optimising domestic resources by blending petroleum fuels with biofuels such as bioethanol and biodiesel. “Efficiency is not limited to that; we may accelerate B50 (50% biodiesel) as an alternative. We will also expedite the implementation of E20 (20% bioethanol),” he added.
According to calculations, when global crude oil prices exceed US$100 per barrel, fuel blending becomes a more economical option to pursue.
The minister also indicated that the government is examining several other efficiency options available under current conditions. “Given the circumstances, the government is considering the best alternatives to maintain national energy security,” he concluded.
