Global Oil Prices Surge Again, IHSG Immediately Weakens in First Trading Session

JAKARTA - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) faced renewed pressure in the first trading session on Thursday (9/4/2026). The index fell 11.17 points or 0.15% to the level of 7,268.033.

The decline occurred after global oil prices strengthened on Thursday morning, following Iran’s accusations that the United States (US) had violated several points in the two-week ceasefire agreement.

Brent crude oil, the global benchmark for the June contract, rose 2.08% to $96.83 per barrel. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude for the May contract strengthened 2.86% to $97.27 per barrel.

Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the IHSG opened at 7,238.462 and experienced pressure, touching a low of 7,191.586. However, the index then reversed and reached a high of 7,290.077 before correcting again.

From the trading activity perspective, the transaction volume reached 16.63 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 8.84 trillion and a frequency of 1.33 million times.

Share movements showed that selling pressure remained dominant, with 360 shares weakening, while 275 shares strengthened and 173 shares were stagnant. Meanwhile, market capitalisation reached Rp 12,832.3 trillion.

This policy temporarily halted the conflict that had lasted five weeks and had closed important global energy supply routes.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1,325.46 points or 2.85% to 47,909.92, marking the best daily performance since April 2025. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 2.51% to 6,782.81, and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 2.80% to 22,635.00.

Meanwhile, Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, fell 13.29% to $94.75 per barrel, marking the lowest closing position since 11 March. However, this price is still higher compared to $73 per barrel before the war.
