Global IP Licensing Opens New Business Opportunities for Indonesian Creators
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar said that collaboration between global intellectual property (IP) owners and local creators is seen as opening new business opportunities for creative economy players through official licensing schemes that allow creators to monetise their work.
Irene said the collaboration model implemented at HoYo FEST through licensed products is one strategy to increase the added value of the national creative economy, particularly in the games, crafts, illustration, and design subsectors, whilst also expanding access to broader markets.
“HoYo FEST demonstrates that collaboration between global IP and local creators can create mutually beneficial economic value. Initiatives like this open up wider space for Indonesian talent to produce creative works that have commercial value whilst reaching larger markets,” said Irene in a statement received on Monday.
According to Irene, the utilisation of IP is no longer limited to the games industry alone, but has developed into an economic ecosystem involving various creative subsectors. Through such collaboration, local creators gain the opportunity to produce crafts and official merchandise based on global game characters, thereby enhancing their competitiveness as well as the selling value of their products.
At HoYo FEST 2026, as many as 71 creative economy practitioners were involved in the Artist Alley, which featured around 50 booths. The products on display were the result of collaborations between Indonesian creators and IP owned by HoYoverse through official licensing schemes.
Irene considered this approach an important breakthrough because it gives creators room to gain economic benefits from their work without losing ownership rights over the creative output they develop.
She hopes similar cooperation models can be expanded by involving more international IP owners. This step is believed to be capable of accelerating the growth of the national creative industry whilst strengthening Indonesia’s position as one of the creative economy hubs in the region.
Associate Brand Director of HoYoverse Indonesia/COGNOSPHERE PTE. LTD, Aswin Atonie, said HoYo FEST 2026 has attracted more than 9,500 visitors since it opened on 30 July. According to him, the high public enthusiasm demonstrates the enormous economic potential that can grow from collaboration between the games industry, communities, and local creators.
“We hope that synergy between the government, industry, and communities like this can continue to develop so that more Indonesian creative talents have the opportunity to create, grow, and be recognised at a broader level,” said Aswin.
Beyond being an event for gaming fan communities, HoYo FEST also serves as a promotional space for local creators to introduce their creative products to wider markets.
The government views IP licensing-based collaboration as a sustainable model for developing the creative economy, as it encourages the emergence of new business opportunities whilst strengthening the creative business ecosystem in Indonesia.
