Global Internet Traffic Map for Early 2026: Google Leads, ChatGPT Shows Strength
Global internet traffic remains dominated by a handful of tech giants. However, amidst this dominance, new AI-based platforms are beginning to make their mark.
According to data from the analytics platform Semrush for January 2026, Google is known to be the most visited site in the world, with around 94.8 billion monthly visits.
Then in second place, the video-sharing platform YouTube recorded 49.7 billion monthly visits. YouTube and Google are sibling companies under the parent Alphabet.
Google and YouTube’s positions occupying the top two rankings reaffirm that the Alphabet ecosystem still controls global internet traffic.
Interestingly, in this list of the most visited websites, AI platforms appear to be experiencing a significant surge in visitors. OpenAI’s AI chatbot ChatGPT has now broken into the top five busiest sites in the world.
With around 5.5 billion monthly visits, ChatGPT has even surpassed several other major platforms such as Reddit, Wikipedia, X, up to TikTok and Netflix. This indicates that AI has become part of daily digital activities.
According to Semrush, ChatGPT only entered the global top 15 sites in early 2024, about a year after its launch. Now, in a relatively short time, its popularity has skyrocketed, propelling it to the fifth position worldwide.
Other platforms like X and TikTok also remain major players, with visit numbers of 3.8 billion and 2.2 billion per month, respectively.
Not only that, marketplaces like Amazon from the US and Temu from China also make the list, signalling the strength of the current online shopping trend.
Meanwhile, entertainment platforms like Netflix remain a primary destination for video content, with 1.5 billion monthly visits.
