JAKARTA - Global data centre needs are projected to surge in the next five years. This spike is occurring alongside the accelerated adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). Demand for data centres is estimated to increase nearly tenfold during the period from 2025 to 2030. VP of Market Development and Sales Strategy at DCI Indonesia, Abieta Billy, stated that this surge is driven by the massive growth in the AI industry. “The projection for global data centre demand to rise very rapidly, up to nearly tenfold between 2025 and 2030. That is the first point,” Billy said during a virtual press conference on Monday (30/3/2026). “And by 2030, the expectation is that the global data centre industry will reach approximately $300 billion in terms of market size,” he explained. This growth aligns with the expansion of the AI services market. From 2023 to 2025, the AI market grew more than 200% per year. Its value now exceeds more than $26 billion US per year. This surge is evident from the increase in the number of users of AI services such as ChatGPT and Gemini. The number of active users rose fourfold from 2023 to 2024, then increased again in 2025. “And this is reflected in the revenue of companies providing AI services. If we look historically from 2023-2025, the market for AI services has developed very rapidly. More than 200% per year, and the market is growing larger, reaching more than $26 billion per year,” he elaborated. “Of course, all AI services require data centres. In data centres is where all the requests and data that we process, that we query to ChatGPT for example, are all processed and carried out,” he said.
