Global Conflicts Heat Up, Police Chief Orders Brimob to Full Alert
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has instructed all personnel of the Indonesian Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) to increase their preparedness in facing potential security dynamics arising from global geopolitical turmoil.
The directive was delivered while opening the technical work meeting (rakernis) of the Brimob Police Corps, attended by around 7,000 personnel at the Brimob Police Headquarters Field in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday (21/4).
“We all must always be ready, we all must always be vigilant. We all must prepare ourselves to continue training to face all kinds of dynamics that may occur,” said Sigit in his address.
He highlighted the heating global geopolitical situation due to conflicts between Iran, Israel, and the United States, which he assessed as having the potential to expand escalation globally.
According to him, the conflict not only causes civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure and public facilities but also impacts the energy sector in various countries.
“We see that several countries, including in this region, have declared a national energy emergency status. Several areas in neighbouring countries have announced the use of energy as efficiently as possible,” he explained.
He added that several countries have even begun implementing activity restriction policies, including work arrangements such as work from home (WFH).
“Even some countries have started regulating the implementation of WFH, including Indonesia which is currently also implementing WFH or work from office (WFO) once a week,” he added.
The Police Chief explained that the Indonesian government has endeavoured to mitigate the energy crisis impacts, among others, by optimising production through the opening of new refineries and old wells.
Nevertheless, he reminded that the potential for turmoil remains.
“However, on the other hand, we also see that for non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM) and non-subsidised LPG, there has been an increase, and this implication will impact rising prices,” he explained.
“Of course, this will cause reactions, will create potential for increased escalation, especially related to domestic security issues,” he continued.
For this reason, Sigit asked all Brimob personnel to enhance readiness, including understanding field conditions and ensuring the completeness of operational equipment.
“Please study thoroughly the situation and existing escalation, study the field conditions and terrain. Prepare the equipment you have so that when you deploy, the available equipment is ready,” he said.
