Global Conflict and Extreme Weather Hamper Kalimalang Water Tourism Development in Bekasi

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — The development of the Kalimalang Water Tourism project in Bekasi City has been hampered by global conflict and extreme weather.

David Rahardja, Chief Executive Officer of PT Mitra Patriot Kota Bekasi, said the obstacles have prevented the Kalimalang Water Tourism project from progressing optimally.

‘This is not merely the impact of global conflict, but the weather has been quite extreme in March and April this year, so the construction could not proceed optimally,’ he told Kompas.com on Tuesday (19 May 2026).

The global conflict has caused raw material prices to rise and shipping processes to be delayed.

According to him, the situation has meant that several tourism facilities cannot be completed according to the initial target planned to be finished by May 2026.

‘That is why, to this day, the May target has not been realised,’ said David.

As a result of these constraints, the plan for a grand opening or inauguration of Kalimalang Water Tourism had to be postponed.

‘It is likely to be completed only in August,’ he said.

Despite the delays, construction of some main facilities in the tourism area is said to continue.

Observations at the site show a row of colourful containers has been installed beneath the Becakayu Toll, Jalan KH Noer Ali, South Bekasi District, Bekasi City.

The containers will later be used as culinary and MSME tenants.

Additionally, a decorative bridge with an instagrammable design has already stood in the area.

Two curved bridges that will connect the tourism area appear to be completed.
