Global Citizens Unite: Anti-War Demonstrations Resound from Jakarta to New York
Scores of residents carried posters and Iranian flags during anti-war demonstrations held outside the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday 9 March 2026, in protest against Israeli attacks on Iran. The conflict escalated following American and Israeli strikes on Tehran on 28 February, which killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting retaliatory strikes against numerous American military bases in Arab nations.
According to the United States military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), America struck over 5,000 targets during the first ten days of the Iran war. These targets included more than 50 Iranian vessels responsible for American military operations in the region.
Demonstrators in New York similarly held protests against American and Israeli attacks on Iran, carrying posters depicting Donald Trump and banners reading “Stop the War on Iran!” as a call to end the conflict.
According to the latest data released by Al Jazeera on Tuesday 10 March 2026, Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Dr. Ali Jafarian reported that over 1,255 people have been killed and approximately 12,000 others wounded during nine days of American and Israeli strikes on Iran, with the majority of casualties being civilians.
Residents in London, England, also held similar demonstrations. Anti-war activists gathered outside the United States Embassy carrying posters, banners, and Iranian flags in a march organised by the Stop the War Coalition, calling for an end to the US–Israeli conflict with Iran.
Residents of Málaga, Spain, held demonstrations condemning American and Israeli attacks on Iran. During the protest, a woman raised her hand displaying a message reading “Not to War” as crowds called for an end to the hostilities amid the ongoing conflict.
The warfare has extended beyond Iran. Israel has also struck Lebanon, home to Iran’s proxy Hezbollah. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that the death toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon has risen to 486 people, with 1,313 others wounded.
