Global ambitions for U.K. firm

Royal Doulton has embarked on the most ambitious international
expansion program in its long history, with development of a
US$30 million factory in Indonesia.

The Indonesian joint-venture operation, known as PT Doulton
Multifortuna, is located on a 12-hectare site at Tangerang, west
of Jakarta. It employs more than 600 people and is capable of
producing more than 150,000 pieces of fine china per week.

PT Doulton Multifortuna will also produce fine china with a
difference. The launch of its new Everyday range, matching
quality standards that have been set in the U.K., will appeal to
clientele with a busy lifestyle.

Royal Doulton has been distributed throughout the area since
1992 by the Multifortuna group. The success of this relationship,
and the market penetration achieved are what have led to the
development of the Tangerang site.

An aggressive transfer-of-skills program and a strong pool of
local talent has resulted in the company being operational after
only two years from the commencement of development stage.

PT Doulton Multifortuna stated that strategically speaking,
Indonesia is an ideal site for its works. As a member of both
ASEAN and APEC, it provides an excellent growth opportunity and a
platform from which to target the Pacific-Rim markets and the
rest of the world.
