Glamping Posong Tragedy: Geology Agency Finds No Dangerous Volcanic Gases

The Geology Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed no indications of dangerous volcanic gases at the Glamping Posong tourist site in Temanggung Regency, Central Java. This follows the tragedy where four members of a family were found dead at the location on Wednesday, May 27.

Acting Head of the Geology Agency, Lana Saria, stated that her team conducted on-site inspections and gas concentration measurements around the incident area to assess the influence of Mount Sindoro’s activity.

“Based on preliminary measurements at the inspection site, there is no indication of dangerous volcanic gas concentrations in the measured area,” Lana Saria said in Jakarta on Friday, May 29.

She added that vegetation around Glamping Posong appeared normal with no signs of chemical gas damage. Currently, Mount Sindoro’s volcanic activity remains at Level I (Normal).

Previously, Temanggung Police reported a family found dead while camping. Initial suspicions pointed to inhalation of hazardous gases. However, with the Geology Agency’s findings, the exact cause of death now depends on the crime scene investigation and forensic laboratory tests by the police.

The public and potential tourists are advised to remain calm but vigilant while awaiting the full investigation results from authorities regarding the victims’ medical cause of death.
