PT Petrokimia Gresik (Persero), an agro-industry solutions company and member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, has introduced the GladiAgro: Next-Gen Soil Revival innovation as a solution to help restore soil health and support sustainable agriculture. The innovation won the highest award as Outstanding Distinguished Innovator at the SDGs Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals 2026, organised by the Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN). This achievement also paves the way for GladiAgro to be introduced at the UN Global Compact forum in New York, United States, in September 2026.

Petrokimia Gresik’s President Director, Daconi Khotob, stated that GladiAgro was developed to address the challenge of declining agricultural soil quality, which can impact fertiliser effectiveness and agricultural productivity. “GladiAgro is part of Petrokimia Gresik’s effort to provide solutions for soil health issues. We want to help farmers improve land conditions so that fertilisation becomes more effective, productivity increases, and agricultural sustainability is maintained,” Daconi said.

The innovation was born from Petrokimia Gresik’s concern over the declining quality of agricultural land in Indonesia. This condition is partly influenced by unbalanced fertiliser use and the practice of burning agricultural waste. Based on testing of 40,282 soil samples conducted by Petrokimia Gresik since 2016 across 27 provinces, 91.9 percent of samples showed low organic carbon content. This condition can reduce soil quality and fertility, diminish fertiliser effectiveness, and make increasing agricultural productivity less than optimal.

To address this issue, GladiAgro utilises a biological product based on superior microbes, Petro Gladiator, to process agricultural waste into Liquid Organic Nutrients. These nutrients are then returned to the land to increase organic matter content, improve soil structure, and help restore fertility. “GladiAgro targets the root problem of agriculture, namely low soil fertility. Petro Gladiator acts as a decomposer to help increase organic matter content. When soil quality improves, nutrient absorption becomes more optimal, so agricultural productivity can increase and land becomes more adaptive to climate change,” Daconi explained.

In its implementation, GladiAgro has been applied in Central Java and East Java on various food and horticultural commodities. The programme is strengthened by the AgrooFertile App, which is based on Artificial Intelligence and capable of providing commodity-specific fertiliser recommendations. Through the AgrooFertile App, farmers can obtain fertiliser recommendations suited to their commodity and land conditions. Thus, fertilisation can be carried out more precisely, efficiently, and in an environmentally friendly manner.

Daconi said the award is a form of appreciation for Petrokimia Gresik’s efforts in developing agro-industry solutions that provide balanced economic, social, and environmental benefits. “This award is not the final goal, but rather motivation for us to continue perfecting and expanding the benefits of GladiAgro. We hope this innovation can become a good practice from Indonesia in realising more productive and sustainable agriculture, while helping farmers address soil health challenges and strengthening national food security,” Daconi concluded.
