GKB-NU Urges Public Not to Be Easily Provoked, Asks for Chance for Prabowo

The New Revival Movement of Nahdlatul Ulama (GKB-NU) has called on the Indonesian people to remain calm, patient, and not to be easily provoked by various narratives deemed to have the potential to divide the nation’s unity.

GKB-NU initiator Hery Haryanto Azumi stated that President Prabowo Subianto’s current administration is implementing various strategic programmes oriented towards the interests of the people. These programmes, he said, include strengthening food security, energy sovereignty, the downstreaming of natural resources, and the strengthening of the national economy.

“GKB-NU assesses that President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is currently executing various strategic programmes oriented towards the interests of the people,” Hery told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026.

According to Hery, these various programmes require time, consistency, and national stability so that their benefits can be optimally felt by the community. Therefore, he urged the public not to rush to conclusions or be easily influenced by narratives that could diminish trust in the legitimate government.

Hery also reminded that in the history of several developing nations, agendas to strengthen economic, food, and energy sovereignty, as well as the control of strategic resources, often face various interests that feel disadvantaged.

Consequently, the public is asked to remain vigilant against the possibility of certain parties, both from within and outside the country, attempting to exploit national political dynamics to hinder the nation’s agenda for self-reliance.

Nevertheless, Hery emphasised that criticism of the government is a right guaranteed within a democratic system. However, in his view, the public must be able to distinguish between constructive criticism and actions that have the potential to cause political instability or disrupt national unity.

“Criticism of the government is a right guaranteed in a democracy. However, the people must be able to differentiate between constructive criticism and efforts that have the potential to create political instability, weaken national unity, or disrupt the progress of programmes aimed at increasing public welfare,” he said.

Furthermore, Hery asserted that every political aspiration must be conveyed through mechanisms that comply with the constitution and the principles of the rule of law. He assessed that changes in national leadership must remain within the applicable democratic corridors.
