The Nahdlatul Ulama New Awakening Movement (GKB-NU) has urged the public to remain critical of various developing political narratives to avoid being trapped by foreign operation agendas that disrupt national stability. This was conveyed by GKB-NU initiator Hery Haryanto Azumi in response to the issue of a large-scale action as a wave of protest against the government of President Prabowo, who is currently focused on implementing a pro-people agenda to realise national independence and sovereignty. “In less than two years of President Prabowo’s administration, a number of strategic policies have been directed at strengthening food security, energy sovereignty, downstream processing of natural resources, and increasing the added value of the national economy,” he told the media in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026). Hery explained that the government is currently continuing to push for industrial downstreaming and strengthening state control over the production chain of strategic resources so that more economic benefits are enjoyed by the Indonesian people. “President Prabowo has repeatedly emphasised the importance of processing natural resources domestically, strengthening food security, and energy independence as the foundation of national sovereignty,” he explained. According to Hery, these policies objectively touch upon very large economic interests. Therefore, it is not impossible that resistance will emerge from various groups that have so far profited from Indonesia’s dependence on imports, raw material exports, and the weak state control over strategic resources. “We suspect there are foreign operations to create public distrust, political instability, or weaken the national independence agenda that President Prabowo continues to champion,” he revealed. GKB-NU considers that the various programmes for strengthening food security, energy independence, and downstreaming are long-term agendas that require political stability and the support of all elements of the nation. The government itself places food and energy security as national development and state fiscal policy priorities.
