Give us your best-shot short: JiFFest

The Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest) is back, but
with a difference -- this time organizers want your movies.

Like in previous incarnations, this year's JiFFest will screen
selected movies from around the globe, offering quality films for
Jakartan movie buffs.

But organizers are also inviting local independent filmmakers
to send in their best short films and video to compete for prizes
worth a total of Rp 30 million (US$3000).

The JiFFest film competition offers two categories;
documentary and fiction.

The main prize in the documentary category is the festival's
Shortdocs Award, but films on women's or environmental issues can
win the Femme Film Award from the Women's Journal Foundation or
the Panda Award from the Indonesia World Wildlife Foundation.

The JiFFest Short Fiction Award is the best film offered in
the fiction category.

Director Tonny Trimarsanto, producer Rhoda Grauer and
journalist Maria Hartiningsih will be judges for the Shortdocs
Award, while teams from the journal foundation and WWF will judge
documentaries on women and environmental issues.

The Thai Short Film and Video Festival director Chalida
Uabumrungjit and Malaysian director Ho Yuang will work together
with local emerging director Riri Riza to judge films in the
fiction category.

All work must have been produced no earlier than 2003 and be a
maximum of 30 minutes in length for documentaries and 15 minutes
for fiction.

Films and video should be submitted to JiFFest, Jl. Sutan
Syahrir IC/Blok 3-4 Menteng, Central Jakarta, before Oct. 21.

For further inquiries, interested filmmakers can contact
