Girlfriend of Baby Dumping Suspect in Bekasi Also Arrested by Police
Bekasi — Police arrested the boyfriend of N (19), a woman suspected of abandoning her newborn daughter in the Tytyan Kencana residential area, Margahayu village, North Bekasi district, Bekasi city.
“We also secured her boyfriend last night. We are currently taking his statement as a witness,” said North Bekasi Police Chief AKP Tono Listianto to media on Monday (9 March 2026).
Tono explained that N allegedly chose to abandon her baby due to fear of being scolded by her parents. According to him, this fear arose because N had previously been evicted from home by her parents due to frequently arriving home late or not returning home at all.
Police also revealed that the perpetrator is a resident from the residential area. The baby abandonment act was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media.
The discovery of the baby began on Friday (6 March 2026) around 20:00 WIB. At that time, residents received information about the sound of a baby crying in the residential area.
A resident with initials LR initially heard a sound she thought came from a cat. Curious, she then left her house to confirm the source of the sound.
After investigating, LR found that the sound was coming from an old bathtub used as a garbage bin in front of a resident’s house.
Feeling frightened, LR then called two other residents, Mrs F and Mrs Y. They then asked the local security officer to check the contents of the bathtub.
The baby was then immediately taken by Mrs Y together with the security officer to Cahaya Amalia clinic for medical treatment.
“Praise be to God, the baby found is in good health. Currently being treated at the Bekasi City Regional General Hospital in normal condition,” said Tono.
After confirming the baby’s condition, police conducted an investigation by examining several witnesses and tracing the CCTV recording circulating on social media.
Based on the investigation results, on Sunday (8 March 2026) around 23:00 WIB, the operational team of North Bekasi police station arrested the suspected perpetrator at her home. In this case, N is suspected of committing the offence of child abandonment or neglect.
“The perpetrator is charged under Article 429 paragraph (1) alternatively Article 430 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of five years,” said Tono.
Police are currently examining statements from several parties, including the perpetrator’s boyfriend, to fully uncover the series of events in this case.
