Girl trouble causes fracas

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Hundreds of people from Tunjung village, Banyumas regency ran amok and damaged seven houses on Sunday after one of their friends was beaten-up by neighboring villagers.

Witnesses said youths from Karang Luwas village mobbed Suparno from Tunjung village because he was dating a girl from their village.

Suparno's friends retaliated by stoning houses in Karang Luwas.

Banyumas Police chief Lt. Col. Imam Basuki said that the warring residents have been calmed. No fatalities were reported. (45/jun)
