Girl in Maguwoharjo Nearly Abducted After Tarawih Prayer, Police Review CCTV

Sleman – A nine-year-old girl with the initials NIR nearly became a victim of abduction whilst in the vicinity of Nurul Fallah Mosque, Bedreg Hamlet, Maguwoharjo, Sleman Regency. The alleged abduction attempt garnered public attention after information regarding the incident circulated widely on social media.

In response to the news circulating, Sleman Police Resort, through officers from East Depok Police Sector, conducted an immediate inspection of the location on Saturday, 14 March 2026. Chief of Information and Public Relations of Sleman Police Resort, Chief Adjutant Salamun, stated that officers visited the location to verify the accuracy of information regarding the alleged attempted child abduction that had gone viral on social media.

“Sleman Police Resort, through officers from East Depok Police Sector, conducted an information check regarding the social media post claiming an alleged attempted child abduction in the Maguwoharjo area,” said Chief Adjutant Salamun when confirmed on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

Officers then conducted an inspection at the location by visiting Nurul Fallah Mosque in Bedreg Hamlet, Sembego, Maguwoharjo, Depok, Sleman. Based on clarification with the victim, witnesses, and the victim’s parents, the incident occurred on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 at approximately 20:00 Western Indonesia Time, following the Tarawih prayer.

At that time, the victim was on the mosque’s porch waiting for the rain to subside. However, an unknown man suddenly descended from a black box truck and approached the victim.

“The man attempted to invite the victim to go for a walk and offered to buy her snacks,” said Salamun.

The victim rejected the invitation and felt uncomfortable. She then called out to someone passing by near the location. Upon realising someone else was coming, the man immediately left the scene.
