Giri Prasta to Seek Resolution for Buleleng PPPK Teachers Facing Potential Dismissal

Bali Deputy Governor I Nyoman Giri Prasta has promised to find a solution regarding teachers with Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) status in Buleleng, who are threatened with being unable to teach by 2027. Giri stated that the Bali Provincial Government will engage in further communications regarding this issue, noting that Bali is currently facing a teacher shortage.

“I believe we will communicate this thoroughly and strive to find a way forward to prevent dismissals,” said Giri after attending the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Plenary Session on Monday (18/05/2026). “To be honest, we must address this, as Bali is still experiencing a shortage of teachers across primary, junior high, and senior high schools.”

Giri continued, explaining that the threat to PPPK teachers in Buleleng is inseparable from central government regulations. “Regulations and laws dictate that the requirement for PPPK is managed by the central government, supported by the General Allocation Fund (DAU),” explained the former Regent of Badung.

Previously, the fate of 424 non-civil servant (non-ASN) teachers in Buleleng was reported to be in jeopardy. They are currently only permitted to teach in state schools until 31 December 2026, after which their future remains uncertain.

“For now, they will continue to teach until the end of 2026. After that, we are still awaiting policies from the central government,” said the Head of the Buleleng Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora), Ida Bagus Surya Bharata, on Tuesday (05/05/2026).

The uncertainty regarding these non-ASN teachers arose following Circular Letter (SE) Number 7 of 2026 from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education. The circular limits the tenure of non-ASN teachers in state schools until the end of next year. Consequently, without further policy intervention, hundreds of teachers in Buleleng could potentially lose their positions in state schools starting in 2027.

The Buleleng Regency Government has yet to take concrete steps regarding the fate of these hundreds of non-ASN teachers. While internal studies have been prepared, the final decision awaits direction from the central government. “The circular is addressed to the Regent. We have conducted a review, and a decision will be made in due course,” added Surya.
