Ginandjar and Kwik disclose wealth

JAKARTA (JP): Former minister of mines and energy Ginandjar
Kartasasmita bought a Cherokee jeep valued at US$41,000 last
year, but had not bought any house furniture since 1998, the
Civil Servants' Wealth Audit Commission (KPKPN) disclosed on
Tuesday.

The luxury vehicle, one of five cars in his carport, is a
component of Ginandjar's total assets which are estimated at Rp
25.62 billion.

His other belongings include eight watches and a set of golf
clubs worth Rp 80 million.

Ginandjar's furniture is valued at Rp 500 million, which
according to the report was purchased between 1968 and 1998.
Ginandjar also owns three houses, including two in Jakarta.

The incumbent People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) deputy
speaker also keeps several dollar bank accounts, totaling
$399,762.

"The bank savings he obtained through inheritance total
$113,000," the report said.

Ginandjar held four Cabinet posts under former president
Soeharto, including his final position as coordinating minister
for the economy, finance and industry.

Ginandjar has been named a suspect in a $24.8 million
corruption case involving the state oil and gas company
Pertamina.

The list of state officials's wealth, the fourth to be
published since April 10, also revealed the assets of Ginandjar's
successor as coordinating minister, Kwik Kian Gie.

Kwik, who served as minister between October 1999 and August
2000, declared that he was far poorer than his predecessor,
valuing his belongings at Rp 8.41 billion.

The assets include his favorite Toyota Crown, which is valued
at Rp 420 million.

Kwik, a House of Representatives member from the Indonesian
Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), also reported that
he owned five properties in Jakarta and Tangerang worth Rp 2.43
billion.

Unlike Ginandjar, Kwik has Rp 539.33 million in debt which
remains unpaid.

He also bought promissory notes in 1985, 1987 and 2000
totaling Rp 630 million. The latest quantity of promissory notes
he bought cost Rp 5 million. (prb)
