Gilimanuk Port Traffic Returns to Normal Amid Garbage Problem
Traffic at Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency, Bali, gradually normalised on Thursday, 28 May 2026. The port, which had been jammed with long queues ahead of and during Eid al-Adha, is now less crowded. However, garbage is now accumulating in Gilimanuk.
Vehicle movements both entering and leaving Bali are now normal. The long queues previously dominated by trucks, buses, and private vehicles have disappeared.
‘The situation inside and outside the port is now clear. The congestion has been resolved this morning,’ said Gilimanuk Navy Post Commander Lieutenant (P) Yuli Prasetyo.
Previously, a full week of severe congestion occurred due to a surge in vehicle volumes from Bali to Java. Vehicle queues filled the port’s parking area and spilled onto the Denpas Gilimanuk National Highway.
‘To alleviate yesterday’s traffic jam, officers implemented traffic diversions through residential alleys. This effectively reduced congestion on the main roads,’ Yuli added.
Meanwhile, Gilimanuk Village Head Ida Bagus Tony Wirahadikusuma confirmed the current situation is much more conducive. ‘There are no more vehicle queues in the alleys. It has normalised,’ he said.
Despite the return of normal ferry operations at Gilimanuk Port, a new problem remains. Garbage is scattered and piling up along Gilimanuk roads. Additionally, several public facilities have been damaged by large vehicles that illegally entered residential areas.
The village administration plans a mass clean-up on Friday, 29 May 2026. ‘Tomorrow, we will conduct a joint clean-up with village apparatus and collaborate with ASDP,’ Tony added.
