GIK UGM Presents Diverse Exhibitions, from Technology to Disability History
The Innovation and Creativity Arena (GIK) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is once again presenting a series of art and creativity exhibitions. The event, running from 21 August to 10 September 2026, features a diverse range of works addressing issues of technology, art, design, and the history of disability in Indonesia.
The opening of the exhibition series was held on Friday (21/8/2026) on the first floor of the Bulaksumur Gallery. The event serves as a meeting space for artists, researchers, communities, and the public to enjoy the works while exchanging ideas.
One of the exhibitions presented is Escape Reloaded: Generations Numerique, held in collaboration with Institut Français Indonesia (IFI) Yogyakarta. IFI Yogyakarta Director Margaux Bemmoiochi said the exhibition is expected to offer visitors a particular perspective on technology and its benefits.
“Providing a particular perspective on something technological and something beneficial,” said Margaux.
In addition, there is the exhibition Menaut Waktu. Merekam Jejak. (Linking Time. Recording Traces.), which explores perspectives on disability in Indonesia. The curator, researcher, and artist behind the exhibition, Jay Afrisando, hopes visitors will gain an understanding of the historical journey and changing perceptions of disability.
“I hope visitors will learn together about the perceptions and history of disability in Indonesia from the colonial era through post-independence to the present day,” said Jay.
The GIK Exhibition Series also features a number of other exhibitions, such as Art Buff: Concept Art Exhibition, International Postcard Exhibition, Design: dosa dan kebisingan industri (Design: sin and industrial noise), and Print Street: Street Furniture Showcase.
The series of activities is complemented by Semesta Buku Jogja: Book Festival and The YogYakartan: Stamp Activation. The exhibition opening also included sharing sessions with several collaborators as well as a DJ set performance.
The various works and programmes will run until 10 September 2026, opening up space for the public to enjoy works of art and gain new perspectives from the various issues raised in the exhibitions.
