GIIAS Semarang 2026 to Feature 19 Vehicle Brands
The GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) is returning to Semarang, Central Java, with an increased number of participants compared to its inaugural event. GIIAS Semarang 2026 will take place at the Muladi Dome, Diponegoro University, from 30 September to 4 October, featuring 19 motor vehicle brands and 22 automotive supporting industries.
GAIKINDO General Secretary Kukuh Kumara stated that this year marks the fifth edition of GIIAS Semarang since its inception in 2022. The number of participating vehicle brands has grown from nine brands at the first event to 19 brands this year, comprising 18 passenger vehicle brands and one two-wheeler brand.
“For this edition, GIIAS Semarang 2026, held at the Muladi Dome, will showcase 19 motor vehicle brands, consisting of 18 passenger vehicles and one two-wheeler brand, as well as 2m22 automotive supporting industries,” Kukuh said in a press statement in Semarang on Wednesday (16/9/2026).
In addition to the increase in participants, GIIAS Semarang 2026 will serve as a platform for the launch or introduction of seven new vehicles. Kukuh noted that the growth in participants demonstrates the market potential of Central Java amidst the increasingly dynamic national automotive industry competition.
Participating vehicle brands include BAIC, BYD, Mazda, Honda, Changan, Chery, Suzuki, Toyota, KIA, Daihatsu, Omoda, Citroen, and Wuling. Kukuh mentioned that Central Java is among the top five national automotive markets, following Jakarta, West Java, Banten, and East Java.
GIIAS Semarang is also expected to help stimulate the motor vehicle market at a time when national car sales are still facing challenges. Car sales in 2025 were recorded at approximately 803,000 units, down from around 835,000 units in 2024. Kukuh stated that market conditions up to August 2026 show improvement compared to the same period in the previous year.
GIIAS The Series Project Director Abiyoso Wietono noted that previous GIIAS events in Tangerang, Surabaya, and Bandung recorded positive visitor numbers. Tangerang recorded nearly 500,000 visitors, while Surabaya and Bandung recorded more than 45,000 and 20,000 visitors, respectively.
According to Abiyoso, the presence of more brands provides the people of Semarang with the opportunity to compare and test various vehicles directly through test drive facilities. “This means that with more brands present at GIIAS, there are more opportunities for visitors, for the people of Semarang, to try the cars they desire and test drive them directly on the field,” he said.
Participants of GIIAS Semarang 2026 originate from several countries with major automotive industries, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Abiyoso assessed that this diversity of participants reflects the development of the Indonesian automotive market, which is becoming increasingly diverse in terms of vehicle options, technology, and innovation.
