GIIAS 2026: Electric Vehicles Gain Popularity Amid More Competitive Pricing
The trend for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) is attracting significant attention at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. Jongkie Sugiarto, Head of Market Development at the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), stated that the introduction of various new models with increasingly competitive prices is a key factor driving public interest in these environmentally friendly vehicles.
Sugiarto noted that electric vehicles are becoming more popular because they offer lower operational costs compared to conventional fuel-powered vehicles. Furthermore, manufacturers are now providing a wider range of BEV options that are more affordable for consumers.
“BEVs are in high demand because their operational costs are low, and many BEVs are now priced affordably,” Sugianto said when contacted in Jakarta on Friday (31/07/2026).
According to Sugiarto, the combination of cost efficiency and an expanding range of product choices serves as the primary attraction for electric vehicles in the domestic market. He believes this condition reflects the increasing maturity of the national electric vehicle industry, supported by product innovation and rising public awareness of more efficient transport technologies.
The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that GIIAS serves as a strong driver for the growth of the national automotive industry. Agus noted that GIIAS plays a vital role not only in stimulating automotive industry growth but also in strengthening the sector’s contribution to the Indonesian economy.
