Gift for victims of Mt. Merapi

JAKARTA (JP): Chief of the education and culture ministry's
Jakarta chapter said yesterday that the chapter collected Rp 65
million (US$25,450) in cash from students and teachers in Jakarta to
be donated to victims of the Mt. Merapi eruption.

Kusnan Ismukanto said the chapter will transfer the funds through
the education and culture ministry's Yogyakarta chapter.

Kusnan added that the funds were not only collected from students
and teachers all over the city but also from the chapter's employees
and its Dharma Wanita, the union of civil servants' wives.

He said the chapter collected the donations from Dec. 1, 1994 to
Jan. 4 this year.(mas)
